Dr Ridia Lim

Dr Ridia Lim is a Cataract Surgery and Glaucoma specialist. Her time is spent between Hunter Street Eye Specialists and Sydney Eye Hospital. She specializes in cataract surgery, glaucoma surgery and managing coexisting glaucoma and cataract. She enjoys all aspects of standard and difficult cataract management and glaucoma cases that are referred to her by optometrists and other ophthalmologists.

She graduated from the University of NSW in 1992 and completed ophthalmology training in Sydney Eye Hospital to attain the fellowship to the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (RANZCO) in 2001. She was awarded the ARVO fellowship for attaining the highest marks in her Ophthalmology Part 1 exam. Dr Lim furthered her training as a Cataract Surgery Specialist at the Princess Alexandra Eye Pavilion in Edinburgh, Scotland, in 2001. In 2002 and 2003, Dr Lim completed glaucoma fellowship training in Oxford Eye Hospital, United Kingdom.

Dr Lim has worked on major research studies, including the Blue Mountains Eye Study, from which she gained a Masters degree in Public Health from Sydney University in 1998, completing a treatise on risk factors for cataract. She has participated in international multicentre glaucoma research studies and herself, designed glaucoma studies, some published in peer-reviewed journals and some currently in progress.

Dr Lim has published journal articles, has presented internationally and is the published author of several book chapters in glaucoma and glaucoma surgery, in international collaborations including “Ophthalmology” by Yanoff & Duker and “Glaucoma” by Shaarawy. She has acted as a regular reviewer for both journal and book chapters in the subspecialty of glaucoma.

Dr Lim holds a public hospital appointment at Sydney Eye Hospital; clinical teaching, surgical teaching, mentoring ophthalmology registrars and lecturing optometry students are a part of this role. She is a past Assistant Director of Training for Sydney Eye Hospital Training Programme, elected by the NSW Qualification and Education Committee and is the Secretary of the Australian and New Zealand Glaucoma Interest Group (ANZGIG).

Dr Lim was born in Busan, South Korea, immigrating to Australia in 1976.  She speaks conversational Korean. She is married to Dr Sean Griffin, a talented gastroenterologist and they have a lovely daughter, Erin.


Dr Peter Sumich

Dr Peter Sumich is a Cataract and Refractive Surgeon from Parramatta, Sydney. He has a special interest in refractive cataract surgery and LASIK Laser Eye Surgery for vision correction. He has performed over 7000 cataract and refractive surgery procedures and has over 20 years of surgical experience.

Dr Sumich is the President of the Australian Society of Ophthalmologists (2017- ) and the Past Chairman of the Independent Ophthalmologists Association (2008-2011). He is a member of The Australian Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons where he was appointed as a member of their "Council of 100" which comprises 100 international thought leaders who advise on future direction and strategy.

Dr Sumich graduated with Honours from NSW University in 1990. He did his Residency at Royal North Shore Hospital and then trained there as an Emergency Medicine Specialist being awarded the Medal in the Primary Sciences Exam. He transferred to eye surgery in 1997 and later graduated from Sydney Eye Hospital in 2001. He was honoured to be appointed as the Professorial Senior Registrar in his final year at Sydney Eye Hospital and worked with the Sydney University Department of Ophthalmology which deals with complex eye disease.

After gaining Fellowship with the Royal Australian College of Ophthalmologists he was awarded the Sir Norman Rose travelling scholarship in 2001 and furthered his surgical experience by living in England where he underwent a Corneal and Cataract Surgery Fellowship at Bristol Eye Hospital. In recognition of his high level of training, the Royal British College of Ophthalmology granted him registration as a specialist eye surgeon in Britain.

Dr Sumich has held public hospital postings as an Associate Eye Surgeon at Sydney Eye Hospital and was previously a Consultant Eye Surgeon at Westmead Hospital where he trained Registrars in cataract surgery. He has been a Clinical Lecturer with the Sydney University Department of Ophthalmology at the Save Sight Institute.

Dr Sumich has published many scientific papers and was a Cataract Section Editor for the Journal of Clinical and Experimental Ophthalmology ('Australian Journal of Ophthalmology') for several years. He has worked on the Blue Mountains Eye Study and in the UK was involved in research on a new drug therapy for Corneal Transplant rejection which involved collaboration with Sydney, Bristol and Nottingham University.

Dr Sumich regularly presents lectures and seminars at medical conferences around Australia and overseas. Dr Sumich continues to update his knowledge and skills and is committed to providing his patients with the very best eye care available.
